Thursday, October 25th to Wednesday October 31st, 2018

Our Cornwall and Wild West Tour Extension will be a continuation of our Northern Odyssey Tour. We will proceed on Thursday 25th October from Woburn to Stonehenge, the famous prehistoric standing stones, then onwards to the Southwest of England. The county of Cornwall is an ancient land with deep traditions and a rugged, romantic landscape which has long been an inspiration for artists and writers. We will have a tremendous program of events and visits to the stunning coastline with its inlets and coves, once the home of smugglers and fishermen. During our stay we visit fishing villages, gardens, and the awesome coastal landscapes which surround the county. We sample great cuisine at award-winning restaurants, while at the same time stitching our beautiful projects inspired by our trip to the Wild West.

The price of the tour includes dinners, bed and breakfasts for all 11 nights at top class hotels, as well as entrance to all the various sites and venues we will visit during the tour. You’ll also receive a number of projects to stitch, many of which will be exclusive to the tour…and a 20% discount on all Jane Tattersfield canvases. You will be responsible for purchasing lunches, drinks, and your airfare.

Planned Itinerary

Thursday 25^th October
We will leave Woburn and travel southwestwards. The coach will drive us (approximately 3 hours) to the world-famous prehistoric site of Stonehenge, where Jeremy will guide us around the ancient stones, giving us an insight into its origins and mysteries. Dependent on time, we will also visit Salisbury Cathedral. Hotel and dinner near to Stonehenge.

Friday 26^th October
We will continue by coach through the counties of Somerset and Devonshire and arrive in the county of Cornwall which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. On arrival at our hotel we will have time to start our stitching project and have dinner.

Saturday 27^th October
After our long journey the previous day, we will have a leisurely breakfast. We shall visit the stunning Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens. Cornwall is famous for its warm micro-climate, being influenced by the Ocean, and this particular garden is in a hidden valley with beautiful views of Mount’s Bay. In the afternoon we shall go to the quintessential Cornish fishing town of St. Ives where we can visit the Tate Gallery (an outpost of its famous London parent). There will be time to shop in its winding lanes. In the early evening, Elizabeth will continue to teach our Cornish-inspired stitching project. Then in the evening we will have dinner at one of the local award-winning seafood restaurants here in the ‘Wild West’.   (Choices other than seafood are available).

Sunday 28^th October
After breakfast we will proceed by coach to Trebah Gardens. These spectacular gardens tumble down to an inlet of the sea. It is of particular interest as the tiny beach was the scene for the embarkation of American servicemen en route to Omaha Beach in Normandy during World War II. In the afternoon we shall continue to the maritime town of Falmouth, where there will be a lot of opportunity for shopping. Dinner in the evening will be at the Victoria Inn, Perranuthnoe village, an award-winning pub typical of the Wild West.

Monday 29^th October
After breakfast our coach will start a half-day tour around the far-western tip of Cornwall. This amazing landscape inspired Winston Graham to write the Poldark novels which have been screened on PBS in the United States. During the tour we will visit some of the locations and include Land’s End, Sennen Cove and Porthcurno. In the afternoon, we will head back east through Cornwall to the fishing village of Port Isaac, famous for the location of the TV series Doc Martin. Dinner at the hotel.

Tuesday 30^th October
After breakfast we will head back to the London area. This will take approximately 6 hours and we will make plenty of stops. Check in to the Mitre Hotel, Hampton Court, and we will have a farewell dinner.

Wednesday 31^st October
Departures back to the USA, or other destinations.

 

Notes.

During our stay in Cornwall, we will do all the activities listed, but may change the running order on this itinerary, subject to opening times, etc.

In the villages and towns, some of the lanes can be steep and uneven. Please make sure you have good suitable footwear.

All dinners are included in the tour price, excluding beverages. We normally have a big English breakfast and at lunchtime you will be able to purchase a light lunch or a famous Cornish Cream Tea.

We have a full concierge service where Jeremy can organize extensions and extras for your time in the U.K.    

If you are departing back to the USA on 31^st October, you will be able to book your flight at any time as transfer time from the Mitre Hotel Hampton Court to Heathrow Airport is only 30 minutes.
