I am currently in Portland, Oregon where I am attending an event that Cindy Humbard of Needlepoint Plus has put together, a three day stitching retreat with designer, Shelly Tribbey. The event is being held at the Embassy Suites at Washington Square. Cindy booked the Presidential Suite for the venue. It is a huge room with two master bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and bar. Perfect for a classroom.

IMG_1159We all received a swag bag full of wonderful gift, a exclusive Shelly canvas of a rose and finches, a tray to use at our stitching area to hold all of our tools and threads made by Cindy herself, a square Walker bag, scissors, magnet, grid pad and pen and a snagnabit. Everything had a rose theme.

Yummm! Cindy really knows how to put on a reception.

There were twelve people attending the event. Most were from Portland and regulars at the Thursday night stitching held at Needlepoint Plus, but we also had Edie from Astoria, OR and Gloria from Canada. Portland is about two hours north of Elmira, a easy drive that I make often.

The event started Friday, at 3 pm with a wine and cheese reception allowing us all to meet each other and talk needlepoint. Well, we did talk about other things like our pets, our exercise regimes (or lack of) and then there was a lot of talk and laughter about a Youtube video that the Portland stitchers find hilarious. Cory even showed us his version of Prancersizing. My sides still hurt from laughing.

After the reception we went to Needlepoint Plus to shop for threads for our Shelly Tribbey canvases. Some of the stitchers pulled a Shelly canvas from their stash but I didn’t have one so I chose “Baroque Roses”. Shelly helped everyone pick threads and the rest of the weekend she will help with stitches. I have lots of ideas already for my canvas. I just have to see if I can make them work.

What a great way to have a trunk show and social event. Thank you Cindy for putting this together. Can we do it again?
