Our Off the Beaten Path in England and Scotland Tour, May 1st through May 14th, 2022 will take us to some of the more out-of-the-way and amazing parts of these two historic countries. We will start our tour at Hampton Court in Southwest London, exploring the Tower of London and other sights. We then head to England’s glorious Southeast, to the counties of Sussex and Kent to explore historic houses, castles and spend some time at the quintessentially Victorian seaside. Afterward, we will make our way over the border to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, then head Northwards into the stunningly scenic Highlands. Finally, we will travel back towards London, with a stop at Shakespeare’s birthplace. On our tour, you will stay in beautiful lodgings with fine cuisine, and enjoy exclusive stitching projects. There will be time for shopping, leisure, fun and making new friends.

Sunday 1st May 2022:

Arriving at Heathrow, you will pick up your bags and procede to the main lobby where a driver will meet you. There will be a short drive to The Mitre Hotel, drinks will be served at 5pm. Followed by dinner at the Hotel.
(If you plan to arrive the day before Jeremy can organize an extra nights accommodations.)

Today we will have a morning at leisure. You will have the opportunity to visit the Palace and the Royal School of Needlework shop. Dinner at the Hotel (Please note: The Mitre Hotel has been completely refurbished and has a delightful new Brasserie.)

(Note: You will be joining the ‘Tale of Two Cities Tour’ on the second week of their tour.)

Monday 2nd May 2022:

After breakfast  today we will take a full day’s tour of the sights of London in our coach and will visit the Tower of London and the Crown Jewels. There will also be time for shopping in the ledgendary department store Liberty. Dinner at Mezzet Restaurant at Hampton Court, which is always great fun.

Tuesday 3rd May 2022:

We will be collected by our luxury Bus and will visit Knole House in the County of Kent, followed by a tour of Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. Then onwards to the seaside town of Eastbourne and check into the famous Grand Hotel for three nights. (Elizabeth’s favourite hotel!). Dinner at the hotel.

Wednesday 4th May 2022:

Today will be an easy day and Elizabeth will hold a class for our ongoing tour needlepoint projects. We will have a light afternoon tea and there will be time for leisure in this classic English seaside town. Dinner at the Hotel.

Thursday 5th May 2022:

After breakfast we will drive to the small city of Canterbury to visit the Cathedral which is a World Heritage Site and the oldest and most important Christian structure in the U.K. There will be time to meander round the medieval lanes,  and we will make a visit to a craft and needlework store. Dinner at the hotel  in Eastbourne.

Friday 6th May 2022:

Today we will leave Eastbourne and drive to South East London to see Red House, the iconic home of William and Jane Morris and the centre of the Pre-Raphaelite Circle. William Morris’s artistic contribution has made a huge impact on needlepoint up to the present day.  After our visit we will proceed to a hotel near to London Heathrow. Dinner at the hotel.

Saturday 7th May 2022:

Transfer to London Heathrow for our guests on the Tale of Two Cities Tour to depart to the USA. The tour will continue on as ‘Off the Beaten Path’.

En route to Edinburgh we will take a night stop in the North of England, somewhere picturesque and of interest. This has yet to be confirmed.

Sunday 8th May 2022:

After breakfast we will head for Edinburgh, check into the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel. In the afternoon, you will have time to shop and sight-see.

Today we will stitch a small project on our journey.

Monday 9th May 2022:

Today we will spend a full day in Edinburgh and visit Dovecot Studios, a tapestry weaving studio founded in 1912. There will be another activity in the afternoon, to be advised. Dinner at Berties famous Fish and Chip Restaurant.

Tuesday 10th May 2022:

After breakfast, we will cross the mighty  Firth of Forth and take a class at the Wemyss School of Needlework. Afterwards we will stay further north in a hotel to be confirmed.

Wednesday 11th May 2022:

After breakfast our journey takes us to the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, at Glamis Castle. Today we will also visit a Whisky Distillery. Dinner at the hotel, to be confirmed.

Thursday 12th May 2022:

We depart and take a picturesque drive through the Scottish Heartlands with its stunning scenery, making a stop at Stirling, before heading back towards England and a night at Hillthwaite House Hotel, Windermere. Dinner at the hotel.

Friday 13th May 2022:

We will depart mid-morning back to London with a stop in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, and an early dinner at the Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre Restaurant. After dinner, we will head back to London Heathrow and check into the Hilton Garden Inn, Terminal 2.

Saturday 14th May 2022:

Easy transfers to the terminal for your selected flights to the USA.


Jeremy is happy to make arrangements for you to arrive early or depart later after the tour’s end.

The finer details of the tour will all be confirmed at a later date. We shall try to accommodate all the tours and visits listed already. Of course, on our tours we have time to stitch, shop, eat lovely dinners and have fun. Please note: Jeremy can organize extensions to your stay if you wish to arrive early or stay longer in London, and can help you make plans if you wish to do so. If you have any requests or anything you would like to do or see that is near our route, please let us know, and we will try to include them.



  • We will make additions to the itinerary in due course, to include other visits and activities.
  • Please note: With the Covid-19 situation, we will of course be following all of our Government’s guidelines as they are at the time of travel. With our visits and activities listed, we will make all necessary alterations for your personal safety at the time of travel.
  • During your stay in the UK, we will do our utmost to ensure we cover all the activities listed but may have to alter certain aspects of the itinerary, subject to the situation on the ground at the time. In some of the villages and towns, the lanes can be steep and uneven. Please make sure you have good suitable footwear.
  • Included in the tour price will be all the stitching projects with materials. All you will need to bring are your personal stitching tools that you would normally use. We have not listed on the itinerary specific times for stitching and tutorials, however, we will make ample time available for these activities.
  • All dinners are included in the tour price, excluding beverages. We normally have a big English breakfast and at lunchtime, you will be able to purchase a light lunch or snack, etc. Please note that we can accommodate food allergies with your prior advice.
  • All our accommodations and dinners will be of a very high standard and although we are really informal as a tour, some of our dining venues may request guests to adopt more ‘smart casual’ attire.
  • The tour will be guided by both Jeremy and Elizabeth. Jeremy of course is British and is an expert in the History and Art of the country.
