Needlepoint Now’s 2019 Colonial Williamsburg Tour

Colonial Williamsburg and Washington D.C. Tour
Saturday April 27th to Saturday May 4th, 2019

This tour is currently in the planning stages, so please do check back for more details. 

Our Colonial Williamsburg and Washington D.C. Tour will be an in-depth visit of world-famous Williamsburg and will include York and Jamestown in our itinerary. We will explore this amazing town, which is a huge part of America’s enduring story.

During our stay we will have time for classes, shopping and sightseeing, as well as the opportunity to make great new stitching friends. In Washington we will visit some of the famous museums that will give us inspiration for our needlework projects.

We are so pleased to offer a tour for our readers and attendees within the USA after the success of our tours to the U.K.

Tentative  Itinerary

Saturday, April 27th
Arrival by 5pm at our tour hotel in Washington D.C. On our first evening we will have welcome drinks and dinner, which will be a great opportunity to meet your fellow tour guests.

Sunday, April 28th
After breakfast we will board our coach and head south down through Virginia for arrival in Williamsburg and will check into the hotel for 4 nights. After settling in, we will start our first class project of the tour. In the evening we shall enjoy a cocktail at the famous Williamsburg Inn’s Social Terrace, followed by dinner.

Monday, April 29th
Breakfast will be followed by a tour of Colonial Williamsburg guided by Jeremy and Elizabeth, and will include an opportunity to meet the characters who inhabit this living museum. Later in the afternoon you will have time to shop and explore the town yourselves. Dinner at Christiana Campbell’s which is an authentic original 18th Century Tavern, specializing in delicious Southern Cuisine.

Tuesday, April 30th
After breakfast, we will board a coach and take a trip out to Yorktown, famous for the Battle won by George Washington over the British Army. Afterwards we will go on to Jamestown, which was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas. We will explore the fascinating history and have time to meander through these beautiful old towns. Finally, we will return to the hotel for dinner in a local restaurant.

Wednesday, May 1st
Breakfast at the hotel. Today is our major class day, and we will either take a class at the Williamsburg School of Needlework or arrange a class at our hotel (exact details to be confirmed). Dinner in Williamsburg.

Thursday, May 2nd
After breakfast, we will visit the Art Museum in Williamsburg. Elizabeth and Jeremy will highlight exhibits that they have enjoyed and we will discuss the importance of these artefacts and the relevance to Williamsburg and social development in the area. You will have time for final shopping in Merchant Square before an early afternoon departure to Washington. Check-in to our hotel in Washington for 3 nights. Dinner locally.

Friday 3rd May
Today we have our first day of museum visits. Our first stop will be the George Washington University Textile Museum. This small museum is intimate and compact and explores exquisite textile from all eras. Our second stop will be the National Museum of Women in the Arts. (We will base a needlepoint project on material from their world-famous collection. Following this we will walk to the Mall and visit the Smithsonian Museum of American History. Return to the hotel, followed by dinner.

Saturday, May 4th
We will continue our museum visits at the Smithsonian and highlight certain elements of their vast collection. Late afternoon we will return to the hotel, have a stitching class, followed by a farewell dinner.

Sunday, May 5th
After breakfast, guests will either be able to travel to their relevant airports for their return home, or alternatively we can make arrangements for you to stay on in Washington.


  • Included in the tour price are all hotel accommodations, including breakfast, and dinner is also included whether in the hotels or at an outside restaurant. Beverages are excluded in the price.
  • During our stay in Williamsburg and Washington, we will do all the activities listed, but may change the running order on this itinerary, subject to opening times, etc.
  • Please make sure you have good suitable footwear, as in both cities we shall be walking a good deal. However we will make plenty of rest stops and take our time.
  • We have a full concierge service where Jeremy and Elizabeth can organize extensions and extras for your time on the tour.
  • All transport during the tour is included in our price.
  • Not included: Your flights from/to your home town, and transfers from the Washington airports to and from the tour hotel. You will be able to take taxi, Uber or Shuttle bus.
