“Working in a needlework store can cause you to go into a full-on addiction,” Ada Haydon said about her three-year stint as manager of Needle in a Haystack, a needlework shop in Alameda, California, “I bought so much stuff, I’m still working out of my stash from then!”
But that doesn’t stop Ada from painting and stitching her own designs, or buying more from her favorite designers. She painted her first canvas for a class with Amy Bunger on canvas development while living in California, just before moving to Rhode Island to join her husband.
“Having worked at a needlepoint store, I was so spoiled for choices of canvas that I just couldn’t decide on anything,” Ada explained. “So I decided to paint my own canvas based on a greeting card I had. My husband had already been transferred to the East Coast, and I was staying with my parents-in-law. I painted the canvas in their guest room”
As of July-August 2009 back issues of Needlepoint Now are available at a cost of $7.00 per copy, plus shipping and handling. All preceding back issues are $6.00 per copy, plus shipping and handling.
