Editor's Column

The wonderful crisp days of fall are here and we can anticipate cold weather and maybe even some snow. We can also start to look forward to Thanksgiving, Hanakkah and Christmas celebrations. This is a time when we are so busy with holiday decorating, selecting and wrapping gifts and having friends in and going out to parties that there is hardly time to think. I know you won’t have time before your big holiday event to stitch all of the wonderful projects that we have gathered for you in this issue. I know that I want to work them all, but most will have to wait and "take a number" for next year. Isn’t it nice that we can save our magazines and come back to them when we find a few minutes that belong "just to us?" needlepoint now magazines should age well because we print on excellent quality paper that is near acid free for a long shelf life. (We also use full chroma inks and all of the other little touches that make us easier to read and longer lasting.) Many thanks to all of the outstanding designers who shared their incredible talent to fill up our pages so beautifully. Well done and kudos to all!

Our feature writers are the backbone of this publication. These are some of the busiest people on the planet, yet they all come through for us with fresh new columns in every issue. Holiday greetings to Ann Caswell, Suzanne Howren, Tony Minieri and Jody Valentine. There is yet another force who live and work "behind the scenes". What would we ever do without the talent and generous spirit of Jennifer Taylor, our expert digital photographer and Beth Robertson, our graphic artist? Who can make a needlepoint web page "dance" any better than the incredible Pat Timpanaro? Joan Reardon and Marianne Frost have sharp eyes and even sharper minds when they read every word to proof each page. How lucky we are to have this dedicated service and I am so grateful. I personally want to thank them and the rest of the staff. All work so hard and give so much for the magazine...Sarah Bennett from Circulation, Maria DeSimone from Advertising and many other places, Todd DeSimone our computer expert, Janice Archer from Data Entry, Sara Ann Cohen from Promotions, and our CFO, John Lukomski. Be sure to see how some of us work in our feature "Behind the Scenes." We want to thank you especially. The most wonderful book in the world is not successful until it is well received. We so appreciate your support.

I was saddened to learn of the death of Father Bob. He was a needlepoint pioneer and unselfish patron of this art. He was also a dear friend who made a strong impact on my life. I loved him and I will miss him. I am so glad that his new book, "Father B’s 21st Century of Stitches" has been printed and is on the market.

As this year draws to a close, I find a grateful heart for family, all of my dear friends (such as Paul Hill in California) and coworkers. How lucky I am to be able to do the things I so love...like publishing a magazine, stitching and teaching needlework. I know that you, too, have many things that make you grateful.

For the new year, I pray for world peace. Would that we could learn to understand and accept each other and appreciate each individual human being and nation. I wish for all of us a year filled with understanding and kindness one to another, good health and happiness. Have a happy holiday!
