Persian Tile

Tony Minieri is an extraordinary needlework designer and teacher who writes a continuing feature "Adventures in Embellishment" in every issue of needlepoint now. Not only is Tony a talented designer and a popular teacher who travels all over the country to teach classes, but he is also an expert at intrepreting the painted canvas. This project appeared in our very first offering, the Premier Issue Volume 1, Number 1. The project is fun to work and all of the color palettes are wonderful. Enjoy!

Twelve different color combinations have been chosen, one for each month of the year. The tile shown in photo at right is November.

Color A is Waterlillies
Color B, C, and D are either solid color silks or flosses to match Waterlillies
Color E is Kreinik #8 braid
Color F is a neutral silk or floss for the background

You could also work this design on a 10" x 10" piece of 18-count mono canvas, but you would need to use more strands of stitching threads to cover the canvas.

Master Chart
Area 1 -- Large Center Cross
Area 2 -- Metallic Center
Area 3 -- Diamond-Shaped Areas at Ends of Cross
The next four areas will begin at the crook of the arms of the cross and work out in a diagonal line toward the corners.
Area 8 -- Border of Inner Large Square
Area 9 -- Border of Outer Large Square
Area 10 -- Border of the Outer Small Square
Area 11 -- Background
Area 12 -- Border
