Frostfire
by Joan Thomasson

Scrapbooking is wildly popular these days as its advocates combining favorite photos, fabric bits, special papers and embellishment techniques to create and preserve very special memories. It is easy to carry these possibilities over to canvas, adding photos, special threads, favorite stitches and patterns with fabric to create a special memory sampler. You might be inspired by a wedding photo, bits of lace or trim from a bridesmaid's dress or ribbon from a ring bearer's pillow. Your memory sampler might feature your favorite landscape, your home, pets, children; the list is endless. Often, color itself suggests a theme. I recently saw an Ohio landscape in autumn alight with flaming reds, oranges, and yellows, and hours later some new silks from Thread Gatherer and hand-dyed cotton threads from Weaks Dye Works arrived in the perfect colors! I can't wait to get started on this new creation. Then, of course, there is sunset at the beach, wildflower gardens and anything showing any of the many facets of water.
