Gems in the Night
by Ruth Dilts

This bold pattern is simple, yet it creates a stunning project!  It is worked with very few stitches, but those that have been used are primarily stitches created by Jean Hilton and reflect a new vitality and excitement. The darning pattern reminded us of the Aurora Borealis with the gems being emerald, sapphire, ruby and topaz. When used in the the combination of these vibrant colors on black canvas, the work becomes dramatic and can be finished as a framed piece, an insert in a box or tray or as a small pillow.  This is the first in a series of five designs that will be featured during the year.
