From
the EditorThis is our first issue of the new year and it is filled with pages of inspiring accomplishments and wonderful things to stitch. What a wonderful way to start 2001! I can't believe that it is already 2001--how time flies by when we are busy!
Can we even imagine the dedication and work that went into creating the Mosaic Law Congregation Tapestry shown on our front cover? It took four and a half years with 4,500 hours of work to tell the story of a people by creating this seven by fourteen foot masterpiece. I was so privileged to see it and to work with a dear friend of many years, Vima Micheli, and we are both so eager to share this meaningful art with you.
We feature three designers who are new to this publication. Carolyn Webb designed and stitched the exciting "Red Queen" shown on our back cover, Charlotte McDonnell created the delicate "Pansy Scissors Case" and Molly Holt was inspired to compose "Firenze" with many color options. We know you will enjoy stitching these projects and we look forward to other offerings from these talented designers.
How good it is to welcome friends into service! Two wonderful new features will begin in this issue! Amy Bunger of Memphis is well known in the needlework market and needlework guilds for her skills in teaching needlepoint and her creativity with the painted canvas. In this issue Amy begins her new column, "Amy"able Advice to the Stitcher. She welcomes your stitching questions and problems. Orna Willis is known for her fresh approach to canvas designing and her unconventional way with color. Her new feature, "Orna's Column - Family" will be a continuing project with units of study. Each segment of this study is a tapestry of design inspired by various members of her family. We invite you to stitch along with us on this exciting journey and unique concept.
In the July/August 2000 issue we asked you to share with all of our readers your creative efforts on the "Pieces of Eight" project that continued for so many issues. We are starting to receive your letters and photographs of your projects. They are wonderful, inspiring and sometimes include a funny story. Be sure to send us your information and photos of your piece by April 15 so that we can include your work in our "Gallery of Pieces of Eight Projects" that we plan to showcase in the July/August 2001 issue.
May 2001 be a banner year for you with time to stitch and time to dream.
