Garland TwistSusan Kerndt is a teacher of canvas and counted thread, with Level II certification from the National Academy of Needlearts in canvaswork. She has a BS degree in Education with three years of studies in textiles and design. She has received numerous awards for her needlework and designs. She has designed and taught classes on the regional and chapter level for ANG, EGA, SAGA and nationally for ANG, Callaway Gardens, and the Greenbrier. She is the author of the ANG correspondence course entitled Florentine Traditions.
Garland Twist was designed as a beginner's project to introduce some fundamental canvas techniques. It uses basic threads and examples of different stitch types. The more advanced stitcher can certainly have fun playing with different threads and colors.
The directions for Garland Twist are available on this Web site in two formats: Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) and HTML. If you have not already installed it on your computer, you can download the Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader, free of charge, at Adobe's Web site. The charts and presentation for each format have been optimized for that format; there is no difference in the content.
We have also provided two close-up pictures of the ornament, for your stitching convenience:
